Who are Rainbows?

Any girl aged between 5 and 7 years old can be a Rainbow. Rainbows are the youngest members of Girlguiding UK, which is the UK's largest voluntary organisation for girls and young women.

Rainbow units have a maximum of 18 girls. The girls get plenty of help with the various crafts, games and other fun things that we do, from leaders and parent helpers.

1st Foulsham Rainbows usually meet once each week during school term times.

What do Rainbows wear?

Rainbows wear a polo shirt, red trousers and jacket or a purple tabard. These are available from Guiding Essentials or can be ordered by your Guider (please ask for details).

What do we do at Rainbows?

When you join 1st Foulsham Rainbows you will given your "Ready for Rainbows" booklet. This introduces you to our mascot, Olivia, and helps prepare you for your Rainbows promise.

Rainbow Guides, like all members of The Guide Association, make a promise which is simple and easy to learn.

When a Rainbow makes her promise she becomes a true Rainbow Guide. The Rainbow receives her Promise badge to pin onto her uniform and a welcome bag. The whole unit joins together in saying the Rainbow promise.

The Rainbows promise

I promise that I will do my best
to love my God and to be kind and helpful

Being a Rainbow is lots of fun and a great place to meet new friends. We enjoy doing many things, we especially like to play games, cook, go outside, make things and sing songs. We go on outings to local places, such as the cinema, a nearby farm and Whitwell station, and can always find an excuse for a party!

This is our special Rainbow Song that we sing at the start of each meeting.

The Rainbows Song

Look at the world around.
Learn everything you can.
Laugh as you go along.
Love this world of ours.

Look, Learn, Laugh, Love.
Rainbows have begun.
We're all here now.
Come and join the fun.

Listen to the rainbow song

And this is the song that we end our meetings with.

The Rainbows Goodnight Song

Look at the world around.
Learn everything you can.
Laugh as you go along.
Love this world of ours.

Look, Learn, Laugh, Love.
We've had lots of fun.
Bye bye Rainbows.
Sleep well everyone.

This is Olivia, the Rainbows mascot

Olivia and her friends Rainbow Rabbit, Rainbow Bear and Whitwell Bear each go home with a different Rainbow every week. They're brought back the following week and the Rainbows tell the rest of the group what they've been up to and how they have helped them to keep their promise.

Rainbow Roundabouts

Rainbows can earn this badge by working together and choosing various fun activities to try from our Roundabout mats. They cover the four pieces of the Rainbow Jigsaw , , , as a group to earn the badge.

Pot of Gold

Shortly before a Rainbow has her 7th birthday, she will be given a Pot of Gold book to prepare her for leaving Rainbows and joining Brownies. The book contains many fun things to make and do and also helps them plan their Pot of Gold Party. The Pot of Gold Party is at your last Rainbows meeting. It is a great chance to choose a favourite game or activity. When you leave you will receive a Pot of Gold badge for your Brownie uniform and your leaving certificate. There is a Brownie pack in Foulsham which you can move on to.
